Tips To Enhance WordPress Search Engine Optimization

February 4th, 2010 Comments off

WordPress out of the box allows basic management of the primary SEO meta data. To expand the functionality we add our own super-charged version of the All-In-One-SEO Pack. The SEO pack makes it easy to alter the page title and page meta description.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack is a great WordPress plugin that completes the SEO aspects for WordPress. For some reason WordPress still has not got the SEO fixed out of the box.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack allows you you to change the most significant page elements – page title and page description. It also allows you to change the page keywords, but as we all know, search engines no longer take note of these because they have been spammed too much in the past. Google stopped using the keywords for page ranking in the early 2000′s.

Page Title tags

This is the No1 SEO element to control. Always make sure that you control the page title. The page title appears in the browser window at the very top of the screen. Search engines use this in the listings and display it in their search results.

) between the words.

Just like with a book the page title of an HTML page is the most significant component. Never leave this element to chance. Make sure you use keywords in the title.

If your page needs to extend to cover two or 3 keywords we have found that you can still get effective rankings from adding multiple keywords to the title. However, always try to make the page title as close to the keyword you want to rank for. Adding extra non-beneficial words detracts from the results achieved.

If you are a larger branded company you will likely want to add your company or brand name into the page title seeing this is displayed on Google. Keep it short and uncomplicated though. Do not add your brand statement just your brand or company name.

Page Descriptions Meta Tags

This element is NOT used by search engines for ranking purposes. Nevertheless, virtually all search engines will use this in their search results so it is important. We have discovered that Google will use the description most of the time. We have not yet discovered how it resolves if to use it or not. The rest of the time it will pick up the first piece of text on the page.

By having a good description it will increase your click through rates because the text will be more engaging to people. Ensure that you use a maximum of 156 characters. If you use any more characters Google will truncate the rest. If you can keep your descriptions to–0 characters or less this is even better seeing Google sometimes adds a date to the start of the description which is part of the 156 characters it displays.

The Basics of a Solid Marketing Plan

November 21st, 2009 Comments off

If you’re looking to succeed with a basic marketing plan, then youll need to focus on some core elements of a plan that targets the right audience and produces a result. For your marketing to be truly effective, you should consider using multiple media and a number of touches.

There is so much competition today that the messages you use need to be unique. The effectiveness of any marketing campaign is directly correlated to the quality of your list and offer. Before you even begin, think about your product and what motivates people to buy.

After spending many years trying new things, I’ve found that marketing results are relatively consistent when sound marketing techniques are applied. These techniques are effective in any industry and any apply to any type of campaign you have. Consider building your marketing campaign using the following strategies:

Set specific marketing goals. Before you start, think about what you want your marketing campaign to accomplish. Most marketers focus on conversion but you need to define what that means for you and your business. Some marketers are looking for a sale while others are looking for a download. Before you get started, consider what action you want your respondents or visitors to take and how you are going to measure the result.

Focus on segmentation. Do not attempt to market to everyone. Choose a specific segment and focus your energies there. If you do, your campaign will be more successful. You can increase your chances of success tremendously when you focus on a specific market or niche. Review your current customer and find others like them if you wish to create a positive ROI.

Select a few key messages points. What are the messages that resonate with your audience segment? There may be some key message points you have when describing your product or service. If so, use them to create a baseline and try to improve in later campaigns. You need to talk to your prospects in the language that resonates with them if you are going to grab their attention and gain their trust.

Test your offers. The only way to run a successful marketing campaign is by testing various offers. Your offer is an essential component for driving results. Your best bet is to test multiple offers simultaneously by splitting your list or testing offers. Once you find and offer that works, try to beat its results during the next campaign.

Leverage an integrated marketing approach. Use more than one type of media if you wish to enhance your results. Do not settle for a single email, post card, or advertisement. Rather, discover the media that your segment uses to get their information and buy their products or services. This can help you determine the best way to reach them. Once you develop a campaign, utilize as many of these media types to convey your message and offer.

I’ve discovered that using these marketing techniques are essential for producing a positive return on your marketing investment. In addition, be aware of campaign timing. Even if all of the above criteria are met, your campaign may still fall short if you havent exposed your audience segment to the right message at the right time. It all comes down to timing.

Be sure to review each of the aforementioned steps before creating your next marketing campaign. Your marketing is only going to be successful if you set specific goals, segment your market, focus on key messages, and test a compelling offer. I encourage you to experiment with different media to get your message across.
